  5. ZIPI (Zeta Instrument Processor Interface) is a proposed replacement
  6. for MIDI developed by Zeta Instruments and UC Berkeley's CNMAT (Center
  7. for New Music and Audio Technologies). ZIPI addresses many of MIDI's
  8. limitations; including bandwidth, number of channels, etc., as well
  9. as offering special control parameters for non-keyboard-based controllers
  10. such as data gloves, guitars, wind controllers, etc. Recently, the
  11. ZIPI specification has been made available by anonymous ftp at the
  12. following sites:

  17. In these directories are a README file and 6 articles in ASCII text and

  21. address to zipi@cnmat.berkeley.edu for paper copies of the ZIPI specification.

  23. ZIPI may have its name changed since its creators are thinking of dropping
  24. the "Zeta" part to make it more palatable to other manufacturers. Zeta
  25. hopes to introduce the first ZIPI-compatible guitar controller (with built
  26. in synthesizer and MIDI I/O) at the Winter NAMM, followed by a high-end
  27. ZIPI-compatible synthesizer module.
